William Bland

I was born in the UK and studied there, at the University of Nottingham, for a PhD in Mathematics. I later moved to the US and now live in Mountain View, California, and work as a computer programmer at justin.tv. You might be interested in my blog.

Some things I like:

• Computing: I taught myself programming when I was nine years old on a ZX81, and I've been making computers do fun things ever since. I'm a big fan of Lisp. I once embedded a Scheme interpreter in the Linux kernel (why not?). I've also written a search engine for Lisp documentation, and an online multiplayer crossword game. Most recently I've written a highly scalable chat system.
• Photography, rock-climbing, kayaking, and playing the guitar.
• Listening lots of music - most recently Boards of Canada, Plaid, Orbital, Prokofiev, Aphex Twin and Philip Glass.
